This program works to enable and encourage well-child checkups for children and teens under the age of 21 who are on Medical Assistance. Services of the program include assisting parents and caregivers in connecting with primary care and dental providers, eye doctors, and mental health professionals. The program also provides assistance with scheduling appointments and finding interpreters and transportation for health care appointments.
At your primary care clinic, your child will experience a checkup that addresses your child’s development holistically. Your child’s healthcare provider will perform a physical exam and assess your child’s physical, mental, and dental health, as well as administer immunizations, perform lab work as needed, and do or refer your child for a vision and hearing screening. If necessary, your provider will refer your child to a dentist or other healthcare specialist.
Checkups are important even when your child is or appears healthy. They are important in creating a relationship between your child and their healthcare provider, teaching children the importance of caring for their health, and finding problems early.
