WIC

Women, Infants & Children Nutrition Program

WIC is a nutrition program that helps families eat well and stay healthy

  • Nutrition education
  • Support for breastfeeding
  • Referrals to other health and social services
  • Healthy foods such as milk, cheese, eggs, cereal, juice, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, baby formula and baby foods

Who is WIC for?

  • Women who…
    • are pregnant
    • are breastfeeding (up to one year after baby is born)
    • have recently had a baby (up to six months after baby is born)
  • Infants from birth to 1 year of age
  • Children from 1 year of age to their 5th birthday

How to qualify for WIC

A person may qualify for WIC if one of the following is true:

  • Their household income falls within WIC income guidelines
  • Someone in their family is participating in another program such as Medical Assistance, MN Care, Free or Reduced Price Lunch/School Breakfast,  MFIP (MN Family Investment Program), Food Assistance, Head Start, or Fuel Assistance
  • The person applying for WIC is receiving Supplemental Social Security Income (SSI)or Medical Assistance -TEFRA

WIC Benefits

Coming in April 2019, WIC will provide food through an EBT card. WIC foods are selected for a person on WIC to help meet the dietary guidelines for Americans. You will receive an EBT card to buy foods such as milk, 100% juice, peanut butter, beans, fruits and vegetables, whole grain products, and baby food fruits/vegetables. Participants redeem these benefits at WIC eligible grocery stores.
