What looks like a typical teen’s bedroom could be hiding serious warning signs.
“Hidden in Plain Sight” (HIPS) is an educational, interactive, and preventative program designed for parents, guardians, and adults who work with youth to help in Meeker, McLeod and Sibley (MMS) counties identify signs of substance abuse, risky behaviors, and mental health issues in teens and preteens.
Due to the sensitive nature of the materials, the exhibition is typically restricted to adults only. No students are allowed even if accompanied by their parents. This educational exhibit is designed for parents, guardians, and community members (usually 21+) to raise awareness about signs of youth substance use.
This display involves a simulated, realistic teenager’s bedroom where, as attendees inspect the room, they are shown everyday items that can be used to hide drugs, alcohol, or vaping products.
